Lynch: Glad to have your inquiry. Not sure of how much I know (for sure) that you don't already have in your own records; but I will try. And, you know, you just might be able to help me. (By the way, it is my wife, Evelyn, who is the Boston in the family -- she and I both originally from Parkersburg, WV. . . . Where are you located, I wonder? We have been in Atlanta for 34 years.) A few years ago, using info Evelyn and I have gathered over maybe 20 years, I tried to create a lineage of the Bostons (Evelyn's Bostons, anyway) starting from Henry Boston, Sr. (1630-1676) who was a sometimes rather no- torious resident of the Eastern Shore, both Virginia and Maryland. This "lineage" had several big gaps, as well as some unproven relationships -- which is why I called it A "Conjectural" Lineage. Well, in any case, I show your Jacob Boston (1788-1857) as the sixth generation Boston counting Henry B. in the line running unto the 11th generation represented by my wife, Evelyn. This Jacob (born in PA, died in OH; and designated by me Jacob Boston IV) I believe to have been a son of Jacob Boston III (my designation) born 1747, Maryland, died c. 1820 Pennsylvania. This Jacob III believed to have been a son of Esau Boston II (my designation) born in Maryland c. 1725, died there c. 1775. This Esau a son of Jacob Boston I (my designation), Maryland, c. 1700 - c. 1790. This "first" Jacob a son of Isaac Boston (Maryland; 1674-1701)a son of Henry B. . . . Does any or all of this have meaning, significance, for you? NC I would like to believe (know!) that your G. W. Boston (and there are several GWB's, as you may know) is father to my wife's great-great-grandfather, John L. Boston -- both George W. and John L. having fought in the Civil War as Union soldiers. And this particular GWB owning property before and after the war in Liberty Twp., Washington County, OH. . . . Is it possible that you know anything different from this, or confirming this information??? Please respond, one way or another, and I will have more to e-mail you concerning what else I know of Jacob Boston IV and/or the others ahead of him and back to Henry B. (Although I will be surprised if you need any of this.) You know, Adalee (may I call you Adalee?): It is not im-possible that the Bastian name, believed by many to be German (as it may be) and the pronouncedly English Boston are connected, their different "owners" oh so distantly related. But I have seen nothing that really makes this clear and definite. In the meantime, the Boston name of Boston, England, being so ancient, it is just silly not to explore that connection first. I have fairly good reason to believe that Henry B. hailed from Boston, England, or fairly close by -- but it is, as I like to say, more conjecture at this time than fact. Write me, if you will, please. Truly yours, R. F. (Ron) Hendricks |
