Sent: Monday, Dec. 16th, 2013 at 3:30pm By: Connie White (Bourne) To: Family and friends According to newspersons, senior citizens are now more active than others with this technology. So, as I am now an officially retired senior, I am trying something new this year. This is our annual letter. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hard to believe but 2013 is nearly over AND for 2 years in a row I have gotten our annual letter out BEFORE Christmas. Also for 2 years in a row there have not been any additions to the White clan. (Unless you count 3 kittens- 2 to Tim’s household and one to Joe’s!) Matt, Tim, Joe and their families had a 40th year anniversary party for us this past summer at my sister’s home in Canton. It was great fun. Our sons and their cousins had not been together for nearly 20 years and had a lot of fun catching up on each other’s lives. Nephews came from California, Indiana, Florida and Ohio! Our sons came from Wisconsin, Kansas and Tennessee. It was great to be with the boys and some friends we. and they, had not seen for many years. I retired at the end of this past academic year. So now we have more time to spend with the grandchildren, which we really enjoy. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we get to play with Tim’s 2 little girls, Eowyn who is 3 and Keira who is 2. We usually go to our local library storytime on Thursdays. Andrew (Tim’s 8 year old) comes with us most Thursdays. Brandy and Tim are homeschooling both Andrew and Nicholas (Nick is in 8th grade) this year Our public schools are in very sad shape here in the Memphis area. The boys are enrolled in K12, a public Internet curriculum and are doing very well and Brandy is enjoying her role as teacher. Matt and his family moved to Wisconsin last January. Joy is working for the U of Wisconsin in the neurology department in Madison. Matt is working at a mental health facility in Oshkosh. They live about half way between the two cities and travel many miles a week. Winnie is in 3rd grade, Bridie is in 1st and Georgia Ruth in now in the ‘real school ‘ as a pre-kindergartener. She was not really happy to only go to a daycare last year when both her sisters were in ‘real’ school. (I think the fact that the ‘real school’ has a better playground is important to note here!) Joe’s family is still in Olathe Kansas. Jamie is about to finish her BA in education and has yet managed kids, house, pets and Joe. Joe’s schedule as an Olathe policeman is the worse schedule I have ever seen. With strange hours and days off, Jamie is also the keeper of the calendar. Zach (about to turn 12), Bethany (10 years old), Elijah ( 6 years old) and Ella Sue ( soon to be 5) are all in Celtic dance classes. I got to go with them when we were up their last month. It was really amazing to watch them. Zach is a natural. Beth is poised and able to balance which, if you know Beth, has not been apart of her history. Some people, in fact several, have alluded to the fact that she inherited my ability to trip over the white line in a parking lot! Elijah seems to really enjoy it and works hard to learn the steps. Ella Sue is having fun (She has a very patient teacher!) Our 5 grandsons are really amazing. We were just talking today about how each one is a caring, sweet-natured boy. The older ones look out for their younger siblings and are interesting kids you enjoy been around. Our 7 granddaughters are also amazing. They are strong, capable girls who will someday rule the world! Their parents are encouraging them to become independent women. But they are all too young yet to be dating. We can hardly wait to see how our sons are going to handle that! Paul and I do keep busy traveling to see the long-distance grandchildren and playing with our local family members. Paul is also teaching Sunday school using a book by Richard Stearns, head of World Vision, called Hole in the Gospel. If you have not read it, I highly recommend it. We are starting a small group Bible Study next month. Still praying about which book to study but have narrowed it down to Genesis or Mark. God has blessed us with another year. There have been challenges but He has always been there with us. I am very thankful for the 40 years Paul and I have had together and for our family and friends. I also am thankful for my knitting group and retirement! A friend of mine who has survived 3 bouts of surgery, each with a major surgery, chemo and radiation, always closes her emails and facebook entries with “life is good and God is great!” What else can you say but “Amen!” Love, |
