Scottie Barton came to live with her daughter Cora "Mike" Cox and son-in-law Tommy Cox after Fred's death in the US. |
Scottie met Fred Barton in Canada where they were both working for prior to WWII at a university cafeteria. They married and "slipped into" (illeagal immigration!) the US through the norrthern border and settled in Cleveland, Ohio where Fred worked as a billboard painter. He was hospuitalized with "painter's lung" a disease caused by oil based paint fumesand Mary had to work hard to supporrt the family. Prior to WWII, they were sent back to England where they stayed until Fred's death in 1966. |
