William Bennington was active in the Fleming Co., Ky community, he owned land, and wrote a will. He married Isabelle Wilson on January 12, 1780 in Harford Co., Maryland. About 1783 he and his new wife joined the westward migration, traveling down the Ohio River to settle in Bourbon Co., Ky near the Stoner and Hinkston forks of the Licking River. His will written August 26, 1801 and proved on Oct. 12, 1801. It gives his son William, Jr. the 173 acres on which William,Sr. was living, the 55 acres on which his son-in-law Stephen Jones lives to his grandson James Jones when he comes of age, Stephen Jones and his grandson William Jones to enjoy the profits from the land until James comes of age. The remainder to be equally divided between his four children Sarah Jones, Elizabeth Fulton, William Bennington Jr., and Constant Nesbitt. William Jr. to support William Sr.'s wife Isabella. He signed the will with a mark He built the "Old Stone House" two miles from Flemingsburg. It burned down in 1955. I can not find a burial spot for William Bennington, which leads me to speculate that he was buried on the farm on near where Sarah Jones and her family are buried. At the time of his death William Bennington was the oldest person living in Fleming County. In 1790, when the platt for Flemingsburg was first laid out, William Bennington was listed as owning lots.
