Folks, I come across a common error on the birth of Steven Van Camp and I would like to correct this error. It is stated that Steve Camp was born and married in LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA. I've proven that this is incorrect! The Steve Camp in 1790 census for LANCASTER COUNTY is English and married to Mary Unknown. His will is probated in 1830.

As for Steve Van Camp -- Court Record, Journal 1, p 183 Monroe Co., OH March Term, 1829: "Rachel Van Camp and Samuel Van Camp named administrators of the estate of Stephen Van Camp, deceased." (16 March 1829 - a second entry on the same page reads: "Rachel Van Camp & Samuel Mc Bride admins. of estate of STEPHEN VANCAMP, dec."

Let me propose some questions or FOOD for THOUGHT:

Now whom is this Samuel VanCamp listed along with Rachel? Is this their son who was born November 15, 1800? He would be 28 years old. If this was their son, why him and not the oldest? Steve or First-born John? I think it is neither son's but by chance Steven's brother Samuel living in Drake Co. Ohio. Samuel a Rev. War Vet., who dies in September 12, 1840.

Or - who is this family of "Steve and Elizabeth Camp" in Monongalia Co., (W) V.? There are three court cases listing this family. You will also find them in Monongalia Co., (W) V. tax records. The years they are missing in Monongalia Co., (W) V., you will find them in Washington Co. PA tax records…. Is this our Steve and Rachel Van camp?
Why Washington Co. PA, Steven's other brother lives there. Moses Van Camp married to Martha Rutan. Moses died in December 12, 1845 in Washington Co., PA. You will also note that Moses was a Rev. War Vet.

Some say Steve's father's name was John. Where did this suggestion come from? Or by chance was Steven's middle name John? Thus, the name John, another good question.

Would this mean then, Rachel's maiden name is Sayre. Rachel Elizabeth Sayre!
Cheers
I came across a genealogy report at my grandmothers that went back to John Marshall Van Camp b. nov. 4,1837 in Marshall Co., WV d. dec 30, 1919. His parents are listed, but there is scant information on them. His father was John Squire Van Camp b. aug 20, 1793 d. jan 10, 1873. His mothers first name may have been Elizabeth. She is believed to have been born Jan. 10, 1798. That's all the info I have. None of this info is verified that I know of. I do have a few obits, including John Marshall Van Camp, but little past that. I would appreciate any information

---Response ----
I have a significant amount of information concerning John Marshall Van Camp (my great-grandfather) and his ancestry. John Squire Van Camp was the son of Steven & Rachel Van Camp. John Squire's wife was Margaret Martin (her first name may have been Elizabeth, but she is recorded as Margaret. She was the d/o John Brady Martin & his 2nd wife, Melison Jane Manning.
