I am descended from Johann George Berkhaus and his wife Lydia. I don't know Lydia's maiden name -- it may have been Herb. Johann George and Lydia's son Benewell (also called Benjamin) md. Lydia Herb/Harp in Jefferson Co. PA, d/o Samuel Herb/Harp and Maria Hoch. I am descended from this line. Johann George and Lydia's children: Sarah, George, Catherine, Lydia, John, William, Simon, Benjamin and Samuel. Do you know when Johann George first went to western PA? |

My mother was a berghaus your family name was berghaus before the government got involved. The government and census people now have our relatives as Barkhouse, Berghaus, Barkhouse, Berghous, Berkheiser and several other variations. I am distantly related to you. There were 23 instances when Berghaus ancestors came to North America. The first was in 1753 the ancestors came in to two locations New York and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia Canada. You have hundreds of relatives there including a town called Barkhouse settlement where everyone in town is either a blood relative or a relative by marriage but that is another story. I only recently learned Berkheisers were related to me. Please email me at amboehk@hotmail.com I would love to exchange information with you. Hopefully you can help me fill in missing information and vice versa. Ann Marie |
