Description | Gemeinsmann |
Gemeinsmann It's probably a misspelled version of "Gemein(d)smann." In the 17th century and thereabouts "Gemeindsmann" in Germany was a community position instituted by a city council. The appointee had the job of investigating any and all kinds of irregularities in the community, both public and private, which came to the attention of the city fathers, and he had to report back to the city council on his findings and the development of events. |
